In Vietnam, especially hanoi, the comon sight of caged song birds paints an outward sign to others that the owner is a rich man,
Birds are expensive and time-consuming, those that keep birds do so to show that they are able to lead the life of a relaxed, romantic, rich man.
They are nurtured on a special diet and housed next to older birds so they can learn to sing from them, but no so close that they are self conscious of their lesser singing skills!
